Over 137,500 shekels mobilized across more than 30 towns
For many struggling French-speaking olim families, summer and the start of the school year represent a particularly heavy financial burden. To support them, Israel Tsedaka by Qualita rolled out three joint operations with its partners this summer: subsidizing keytanot (summer day camps), distributing back-to-school vouchers, and a schoolbag drive in Jerusalem.
The keytanot operation, entirely funded by NETSAH, is the centerpiece of this summer campaign. Our association, founded and chaired by Dr. Bruno Lellouche, mobilized over 137,500 shekels so that children from disadvantaged French-speaking families could attend a day camp for two weeks. In all, 450 children were supported across more than 30 towns throughout Israel.
“This is the third year we’ve run these operations, and this year it took on a whole new scale,” says Dr. Bruno Lellouche, who visited several of the camp sites. For NETSAH, the point goes well beyond simply giving children access to leisure activities: caring for the children also allows parents to keep working through the long summer break. The funds raised are paid by Qualita directly to the camps, ensuring full traceability of donations and allowing children to take part in activities on equal footing with everyone else.
“Thanks to NETSAH, we were able to do far more this year: two weeks of keytanot were subsidized instead of just one,” confirms Michel Nakache, director of the Israel Tsedaka by Qualita program. Sports activities, trips to the sea, water sports centers, and even a visit to the City of David in Jerusalem: children enjoyed a wide range of activities, and parents were free to choose the camp best suited to their religious outlook and where they live.
The start of the school year was the second focus of this summer of solidarity: in partnership with Keren LaYedidut, 250 vouchers worth 300 shekels each were distributed to children aged 6 to 12-13 for school supplies. Finally, in Jerusalem, a schoolbag drive was run for the second year with the Association of Communities from the Greater Maghreb: no fewer than 120 schoolbags were provided to families in need.
Three complementary operations with a single goal: easing the financial burden on families at a time of year when expenses pile up.
